INTERNATIONAL FEDERATION OF APITHERAPY (IFA)

LETTER OF INTENTION TO THE WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION (WHO)

Date

To:

Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus

Director-General

World Health Organization (WHO)

Geneva, Switzerland

Subject: Recognition of Apitherapy as a Traditional Therapeutic Method Worldwide

Dear Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and WHO Representatives,

On behalf of the International Federation of Apitherapy (IFA), we submit this letter to express our strong commitment to advancing the global recognition of apitherapy as a complementary and integrative medical practice. We seek WHO’s support in incorporating apitherapy within the framework of traditional and complementary medicine (T&CM) as outlined in WHO’s Traditional Medicine Strategy.

Our Request

We respectfully urge the World Health Organization (WHO) to:

  1. Recognize apitherapy as a traditional and complementary medical system with therapeutic value.
  2. Support scientific research and clinical validation to integrate apitherapy into evidence-based healthcare models.
  3. Establish regulatory standards for the quality, safety, and professional training of apitherapists.
  4. Foster collaboration between healthcare professionals and apitherapy practitioners to enhance patient-centered care and global health outcomes.

Scientific and Public Health Justification

– Apitherapy involves the use of bee products (honey, propolis, royal jelly, pollen, bee bread, and bee venom), which have demonstrated antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, neuroprotective, and immunomodulatory properties.

– It offers solutions to global health challenges, including antibiotic resistance, chronic inflammatory conditions, and neurodegenerative diseases.

– It provides a cost-effective and sustainable healthcare alternative, reducing dependency on synthetic pharmaceuticals while being accessible in low-resource regions.

– Countries such as China, Germany, Hungary, Turkey, Romania, and Serbia have successfully integrated apitherapy into their national healthcare models, demonstrating its efficacy and economic viability.

Commitment from the IFA

The International Federation of Apitherapy is dedicated to working alongside WHO, national health authorities, research institutions, and medical professionals to:

– Develop international guidelines for the regulation, certification, and ethical practice of apitherapy.

– Support clinical research to validate the efficacy and safety of bee-derived products.

– Promote medical education to bridge the gap between conventional medicine and apitherapy.

– Encourage sustainable beekeeping practices to ensure long-term availability of high-quality therapeutic bee products.

Conclusion

We firmly believe that the formal recognition and integration of apitherapy into public health policies will contribute significantly to global health, sustainable medicine, and holistic patient care. We look forward to engaging in dialogue with WHO representatives to explore the necessary steps toward global collaboration and implementation.

Thank you for your time and dedication to advancing traditional and integrative medicine for the betterment of global health.

Sincerely,

Dr.Ștefan Stângaciu

President
